Cool Down Your Computer With 12V CPU Fans

The processor of the computer and its hard drive generate heat as it is operating. Some parts of the computer do not operate well under such heat and could melt. The fan inside the computer cools down the CPU by providing air flow and expels the heat from the computer corpus.

How do heat fans work?

A CPU cooling fan is essential to the operation of prolonged computer usage which generates great amounts of heat from the internal electricity of the computer components. The fan transfers cool air into the components and pulls hot air through the vents on the side or bottom of the computer.

What is a heatsink fan?

Heatsinks have a cooling function for the components positioned in the large computer space. It is a component that is sold together with the fan and is made from aluminum or copper. The metal fins push cool air from the fan in between the motherboard, video cards, and other peripheral CPU components so that the whole system is cooled down.

What are some different sizes of CPU fans?

The size of the CPU cooler is important as not all computers or laptops have the same space for holding the fan. Consider the available space you have for a cooler fan when purchasing one. Some fan diameter sizes may include:

  • 40mm fan
  • 60mm fan
  • 80mm fan
  • 92mm fan
  • 110mm fan
  • 120mm fan
  • 140mm fan
  • 150mm fan
What are the 12V fan bearings?

The bearing is the component that holds the fan inside its case and allows it to spin. Some different types of bearings for the 12V CPU fans include:

  • Sleeve bearings: This component uses two surfaces that are lubricated with oil to avoid friction upon contact. They contain porous sleeves that are self-lubricating but require occasional maintenance.
  • Rifle bearings: Has a spiral groove that pumps fluid from a reservoir.
  • Ball bearings: The average lifespan of ball bearings is 60,000 hours when performing at 50 degrees Celsius.
  • Fluid bearings: These bearings have a very low noise level.
  • Magnetic bearings: The fan works by magnets that push it away from the bearing surface and make it spin.
How do you maintain a CPU cooler?

To prolong the life of your fan and protect your computer from overheating, you will need to clean out your fan. First, shut down your computer and remove all power cords from the power supply and the rear part of the device. Place the computer over an anti-static mat, and reduce static electricity from your body as much as possible by wearing natural fabrics like cotton. Open the back case of the computer. Use a can of compressed air at a minimum of two inches from the fan. Spray for short periods at different angles over the CPU cooler. Clean the surface of the computer and the cords with a damp towel and wipe them dry with a soft towel before turning on the computer.
