ATV Fuel Pumps for Yamaha Grizzly 700

Yamaha engineers offer extensive innovations in fuel pumps. In 2007, Yamaha introduced a new model four-wheel ATV called the Yamaha Grizzly 700 with a fuel injection system, a durable fuel pump in the gas tank, and optional EPS.

What parts make up the Grizzly fuel delivery system?

Yamaha uses a fuel injection system in the Yamaha Grizzly 700 to augment the EPS. The fuel pump sits in the fuel tank. There are five major parts to the system.

  • A fuel line leads to the engine from the fuel pump. There is a return line that bleeds unused fuel back into the tank when the Grizzly is shut down.
  • A fuel filter keeps the line clean.
  • The fuel regulator senses the pressure in the fuel line and sends instructions to the fuel pump to maintain a regulated fuel flow.
  • The fuel injectors accept fuel and dispense it in a gaseous form into the combustion chamber.
What are the symptoms that a fuel pump is bad?

The following are some common symptoms that may indicate that the fuel pump needs replaced.

  • One of the first symptoms that a fuel pump in a Grizzly is going bad is the length of time it takes to start. If you are cranking for more than three to five seconds to get the engine to start, then the fuel pump may be the culprit.
  • Another early symptom is motor hesitation while accelerating in the high rpm range. Hesitation when climbing a steep hill trail creates a dangerous scenario.
  • A symptom that shows up late in the life of a fuel pump is a complete failure to start the motor.
  • An obvious symptom is when the Yamaha engine dies while driving.
Can you check the fuel pump without tools?

There is an easy way to check the fuel pump without tools on a Yamaha Grizzly. The fuel pump takes a moment to prime the line. Open the fuel tank. Turn the key to “run.” If the fuel pump is working, you will hear a buzz. That buzz is the impeller pushing fuel into the line.

When should a fuel pump be replaced?

In the Yamaha Grizzly, it is wise to replace the fuel pump every five years to ensure performance. If you notice longer start times or acceleration hesitation during a ride before that time is up, then you should replace your fuel pump.
