The following steps can be used to clean a Barbour wax jacket:
- Wait until the jacket is at room temperature.
- Brush dirt off the coat.
- Wipe the outside of the coat with cold water and a sponge.
If a Barbour wax jacket has been properly cleaned in the past, it can be rewaxed. In fact, waxed Barbour jackets benefit from being periodically rewaxed.
To rewax your wax jacket, you will need:
- Barbour Wax Thornproof dressing
- A container of warm water
- A sponge or an old cloth
- Cold water
- A hairdryer
Follow these steps:
- Remove the lid from the tin of Barbour International Thornproof Wax Dressing.
- Place the tin in the warm water for 20 to 30 minutes to soften the dressing to a liquid.
- Brush any dirt from the wax jacket while the dressing softens.
- Leave the tin of dressing in the warm water to prevent it from hardening while you work.
- Work the liquefied dressing into the coat with the cloth or sponge.
- Take care to work dressing into the seams, creases, and dry patches.
- Be careful not to get dressing on the coat's interior, pocket interiors, or corduroy collar.
- Use your cloth or sponge to gently remove any excess dressing.
- Use the hair dryer on low to make sure the dressing spreads evenly over the coat to create an extra-smooth finish.
- Allow the wax to dry completely before wearing the coat.
