Fisher Metal Detectors

Fisher metal detectors allow the detection of metal objects located below the ground. These metal detectors are available in a variety of models and sizes. Fisher metal detectors are capable of locating gold, coins, metal, silver, and other materials with a metal content.

Will you need to use headphones with a Fisher detector?

While it is not required to use headphones during the operation of a metal detector, the use of headphones can cut down on the interference and outdoor noise. Therefore the use of headphones can allow more audible detection of the target signal.

What objects can you find with a Fisher metal detector?

Metal detectors can be used to find gold and silver coins, jewelry, blades, tools, and other materials that contain metallic materials. The size and shape of objects play a role in the ability to be discovered by a metal detector. An object with a broad surface area will trigger a more intense audible signal from the metal detector. For instance, a flat plate would be easier to detect than a rod.

Does search coil size matter?

The size of the coil needed will vary depending on the size and contents of the search area. Small coils are generally used for lots of in-ground clutter and aid in the detection of objects with a metal content. Large coils are generally used for covering more ground and go a bit deeper than smaller coils if the soil is uncluttered. Fisher offers an 8-inch coil that can be used in most situations. However, Fisher metal detectors are able to hold coils of various sizes.

How far down can a metal detector reach?

Metal detectors can locate objects with metallic content, between 3 to 35 inches below the surface of the ground. How far down a detector can reach depends on a few variables, such as:

  • Corrosion: Metal objects break down in the soil and begin to rust. The rust acts as a halo, making the object easier to find even at greater depths.
  • Soil type: Whether the soil is compacted down or aerated affects how the energy from the metal detector moves through the ground. The mineralization of the soil also affects how far down the detector can "see" objects.
  • Size: The larger something is, the bigger a signal it will have.
  • Magnetism: The magnet strength of objects can make them much easier to detect at greater depths.
