Single-Disc Vs. Multi-Disc Players
- As the name suggests, a single-disc player can load and play music from only one CD at a time.
- A multi-disc player, also referred to as CD changer, can hold multiple compact discs and can play music from any of them in any desired order.
- Multi-disc players capacity varies between models, starting as low as five discs and going all the way up to 50 discs. The CDs are stored in horizontal or vertical carousels inside the unit and the chosen disc gets loaded and played similarly to vintage jukeboxes.
Features Of Component CD Players
Vintage Philips Magnavox systems come with a variety of custom features based on the specific model. The properties below are some of the more common features found across various models.
- Programmable memory - it allows you to create a playlist from any of the disks currently loaded in the player.
- Remote control - some models come with a remote control. The remote control allows you to perform most operations without having to walk up to the stereo every time.
- DAC chip - this digital-to-analog converter is a mechanism that translates digital signal to analog in order for the music to be heard through the speakers.
- LCD - later models feature a liquid crystal display unit, which keeps track of your music and displays other pertinent information about the playback.
- Supported formats - most vintage Philips Magnavox units have very limited format support - they can only read the CD format. Some models are also capable of playing CD-R disks and mini CDs.
CD Player Connectors And Cables
