Honda Element Motor Mounts

Your Honda Element is a wonderful, reliable vehicle that will give you years of outstanding service. However, even the most dependable cars will get worn down and break after enough time, and your Honda is no different. If your Element has been extra noisy lately while idling, it has had more vibration throughout the pedals and steering wheel, or you can feel the motor jerking around while your Element is accelerating or braking, then its time for new Honda Element motor mount.

How are engine mounts constructed?

The engine mounts in your Element serve two purposes: They keep the motor stable while your vehicle is in motion and they mitigate sound and vibration inside the car. They accomplish this through the use of a bushing that is affixed to a solid piece of steel bolted to the motor of your Honda. The engine mount is then bolted into a bracket attached to the frame of your Element. There are a few different kinds of engine mount to choose from depending on rather your interests.

  • Rubber engine mounts: These are the most widely used style on the market and the ones your Honda Element rolled off the factory line with. The material is hardened but not unbendable meaning motor movement caused by both motion and internal combustion will be absorbed leading to a quieter and smoother ride. However, the bit of motion the motor will still have will slightly lessen the amount of potential power available to the drive train of your Honda Element.
  • Polyurethane engine mounts: Polyurethane is a stronger and more durable material than rubber which means there will be less give for the motor to move around and more power available to the drive train. The trade-off comes with less motor noise and movement absorbed leading to a louder, bumpier ride in your Honda Element.
  • Solid engine mounts: If racing is your purpose, then solid engine mounts are a great choice. They have no buffer between the motor and frame meaning the connection is metal-on-metal. They keep the motor solidly in one place.
What is the difference between OEM and aftermarket engine mounts?

Once you have figured out what kind of mounts you want to install on your Honda Element, the next step is to figure out whether you will purchase them from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or get them aftermarket. Engine mounts made by the former are either made by Honda directly or by one of their subsidiaries while the latter is an umbrella term for every other company not associated with Honda that produces engine mounts. There are positive and negative points to both and it would behoove you as the purchaser to look at all the options to ensure you make an informed purchase of replacement parts.
