Introduction to Vacheron Constantin

Founded in 1755, Vacheron Constantin is one of the oldest watch manufacturers in the world. The brand has an uninterrupted history of horological innovation and is well-known for their luxury timepieces. Vacheron Constantin is based in Geneva and the Vallée de Joux in Switzerland and operates boutiques in major cities across the world.

Vacheron Constantin is highly regarded in the world of watchmaking and is often described as one of the "big three" of the Swiss watch industry (the other two being Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe). Vacheron Constantin can trace its history to 1755, when Jean-Marc Vacheron, a watchmaker living and working in Geneva started selling his watches.

Vacheron was famous for creating some of the first engine-turned dials and for his work with horological complications. In 1819, François Constantin joined the company and the official name become Vacheron Constantin. The motto of Vacheron Constantin is "Faire mieux si possible, ce qui est toujours possible (Do better if possible and that is always possible)."

Today, Vacheron Constantin operates its headquarters and manufacturing center in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva, Switzerland, and manufactures approximately 20,000 mechanical watches every year. Juan Carlos Torres is the current Chief Executive Officer of the company.

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Collection

The Overseas collection by Vacheron Constantin is the brand's take on a versatile sports watch, featuring a wide range of complications, case metals and bracelet/strap options. The integrated bracelet found on many of the Overseas models is definitely on trend—a style that works well in both casual and dressed up situations.

Primary Overseas models include:

  • The Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra Thin Skeleton is perhaps the most spectacular version of the Overseas. The skeletonized movement allows for a clear view of the fantastically complex perpetual calendar mechanism.
  • The Overseas Tourbillon is a delightful whirlwind of a watch, with the tourbillon mechanism in clear view at six o'clock. The cage of the Tourbillon is designed as a Maltese Cross, the emblem of Vacheron Constantin
  • Vacheron Constantin offers a variety of chronographs in their Overseas collection. White, blue and black dials make the Overseas Chronograph incredibly versatile.
  • The Overseas World Time is perhaps the ultimate traveler's watch. Easily and instantly determine the time in any time zone around the world with this handsome version of the Overseas.

No matter what features you are looking for in a mechanical watch, the Overseas collection by Vacheron Constantin has you covered in the spirit of casual elegance.

Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Collection

Vacheron Constantin's Patrimony is the brand's sleek and minimal approach to a dress watch. The Patrimony collection was introduced in 2004 as a way to pay tribute to the brand's famous watch designs from the 1950s. Today, Vacheron Constantin offers a variety of watches in the Patrimony collection:

  • The Patrimony Minute Repeater Ultra Thin chimes the time on demand with its ultra-thin 3.9mm movement.
  • The Patrimony Perpetual Calendar Ultra Thin keeps track of the day, month, year and leap year and moon phase, in elegant fashion.
  • If a perpetual calendar is too complicated for your taste, Vacheron Constantin offers the Patrimony Retrograde Day-Date. Retrograde displays are useful and amusing; instead of hands that make a complete rotation, a retrograde display only occupies a portion of a dial, jumping back to its beginning when it reaches the end. Vacheron Constantin also offers a slightly different version of the Patrimony Retrograde, with a moon phase indication instead of day-date indication.
  • If you prefer a simpler timepiece, the Patrimony Self-Winding sports only a date window, and is available in a multitude of case metals and strap or bracelet options. No matter your taste in complications, the Patrimony Collection from Vacheron Constantin has a watch that will suit your style.

No matter what features you are looking for in a mechanical watch, the Overseas collection by Vacheron Constantin has you covered in the spirit of casual elegance.

Vacheron Constantin FiftySix Collection

The Vacheron Constantin FiftySix collection draws inspiration from a memorable model introduced by the brand in 1956, Reference 6073. This modern take on a 1950's style is cosmopolitan and sophisticated, while offering a wide range of models. All models utilize a dial distilled to its basics, with easy-to-read Arabic numerals.

The FiftySix Day-Date is a favorite of many collectors. Instead of the usual date window cut out of the dial, the FiftySix Day-Date uses two subdials—one at nine o'clock, and one at three o'clock—to indicate the day and date.

The newly released Complete Calendar in pink gold with a brown dial is a very stylish interpretation of the FiftySix, especially with the vibrant blue moon phase disc at six o'clock.

The case lugs on all models in the FiftySix collection have a slightly hidden feature - they are designed to represent each of the four parts of the Maltese Cross. Take a look at the sapphire display caseback on any FiftySix, and you will be treated to a masterclass in movement finishing by Vacheron Constain. The sharp interior corners, flat polish, Geneva stripes and circular grained wheels put the finishing expertise of Vacheron Constantin on full display.

The World's Most Complicated Watch: Reference 57260

The Reference 57260 by Vacheron Constantin is the most complicated watch ever made. The oversized pocket watch has 57 complications and was made for the occasion of the 260th anniversary of Vacheron Constantin. To name just a handful of the complications included in this masterpiece, it includes both Gregorian and Hebrew perpetual calendars, star chart, equation of time, sunrise, sunset and length of day displays, phase of the moon, a chronograph, alarm, full Westminster repeater and power reserve indicator.

Brown Leather Watch

Only one Reference 57260 was made, as a special order by a private client. The watch is 58mm in diameter and 50.55mm thick, which definitely puts it in the larger size of portable timekeepers. Reference 57260 took eight years to engineer and manufacture, under the watchful eye of three of Vacheron Constantin's master watchmakers. Unsurprisingly, this unique piece does not have a publicly advertised price. In this case the old saying is definitely true—if you have to ask, you can't afford it.

Silver Dial Watch

Looking towards the future, Vacheron Constantin has said that they intend to release wristwatches based on the individual 57 complications over the years to come. With that in mind, the Vacheron Constantin Reference 57260 is a window to the future of mechanical watchmaking.
